Autumn Vibes

Salutations! Although I had stated in my previous post that this would be posted the next day, I was unable to due to unforseen problems, namely that somebody has somehow broken the screen of my laptop (and yes, I am whole-heartedly going with the 'somebody' - It was not my fault)
However, I can post this now, and the next one tomorrow. Unfortunately on Thursday Morning, I will be leaving early to go 'Espana' and will probably be unable to post any posts while I am away, though rest assured, I hope to write a few.

Struggling to reach the surface

  • Girls who straighten their hair everyday. You have been blessed by god with curls, why on Earth would you make light of that gift by straightening your beautiful locks?
  • Sandals in Autumn/Winter. I can not bear this on anyone - unless then sandals in question are stiletto heeled ones... and worn sensibly, with socks 'a la prada fall 2010' if it is cold; which in winter, in Britain, it probably is.
  • Adele. Boring, repetitive and she bleats like a goat. On the other hand, I like the retro 60s eyeliner she has going on.
  • Justin Bieber's perfume - for girls. Sincerely? This is practically so funny, that I do not even feel that it is pitiful, just really sweet. Sho shweeet!

  • Winter. It is Cold.
  • Random weight gain. Just about enough to make me want to starve myself for a week.
  • Chapped winter lips. Painful and undesirable. How lucky we are that there are so many irresistible products on the market... now I just have to find one that does not smell like candied strawberries. Of course, Vaseline is always a good place to start, being a classic (and I have a weakness for the 'Rose and Almond Oil') but I happen to know that Burt's Bees Lip Balm Beeswax is worth a try too.

  • Split ends. On my Life, I swear that my hair just enjoys having split ends. Whenever I look, there they are, teasing me with their resilience. No matter how many times I may visit the hairdresser, or try hair-strengthening shampoo, it appears the outcome is one and the same. It must be a curse.
  • Stress. Pressure. I am only sixteen and it appears that the choices I make now will affect the rest of my life. *Sigh.*
  • My Laptop's broken. Just thought I might mention it for a second time.
  • 3D - It is alright, but not worth the extra cost. I am already wholly bored of it.
  • The upcoming Twilight Film - Breaking Dawn - though, to be honest, by this point I have given up caring. I am not even going to make disgusted faces at those who express their intention of seeing it (And when my sister buys the DVD, I will eventually watch it, though only to mock it. Sincerely)
  • Out of season, Fake Tan. Mildly strange at the best of time, depressing in Autumn/Winter.

Autumn Vibes

Helloo! I cannot apologise enough for not having posted in the last... yikes! 18 days. *Sad face* I have been exceedingly busy and under a lot of pressure, but hopefully that might ease up (wishful thinking on my part)

Luckily, over the next week, I have at least three posts (posts I was supposed to post at the end of November, but am doing now) to post, and another two following shortly, plus three planned. This length of time gone without posting should not happen again. Hopefully.

So here is a list of things that have been despairing me this Autumn.

Sinking Rapidly

  • Legs and Bust, one or the other, not both.
  • Anorexic models. It is not clever, not beautiful and not funny. It does not show talent on the part of the designer if he/she is not able to dress real curves. I have had more than enough of jutting bones, and it is sometimes nothing less than purely sickening to see it coming down the Catwalk.
  • My Gorgeous Vintage 1950s brown gloves have two holes in the fingers of the right hand. Not happy.
  • Uggs. Once and for all, bin them. Oh, and the jeggings, crocs, jack wills and slutty strappy tops can go too. Not Stylish, not original and not even the excuse that it is 'fashionable' in the high-end sense of the word.

  • Rihanna. Detest her style, music and, if I met her, I would probably 'no me gusta' her personality too. End of. (Oh, and I really hated that she was on the cover of Vogue November, looking uncharacteristically elegant and beautiful)
  • The Xfactor. Mindless talent show fostering the growth of air-headed clones and starstruck teenagers with very little talent, believing that all it takes to be successful is a dull voice and a little help. They do not play instruments, do not compose their own music and do not write their own lyrics. Do yourself (and your disgusted brain cells) a favour, stop watching and think of a better way to spend your time.
  • The New Three Musketeers Film... What on earth??? Now, I do not wish to be a spoilsport, and I will probably end up seeing the film anyhow, but what the hell is going on? A) Buckingham is the bad guy. B) Why are there flying airships shooting cannons? No, Just no. C) Did Milady jump from the top of the building at some point? C) To be honest, it looks like the plot and integrity was sacrificed to make way for all the special effects. I will go and see it - but only out of spite in order to laugh at it... and spend the entire time, once I am out of the cinema room, saying at the top of my voice how terrible it was, making sure everyone can hear me. Mwahahaha!

  • Boybands
  • German Revision
  • Gossip and Backstabbing. The woes of attending a girls' school.
  • Random Weight Gain. Horrible.
  • Waking up with an enormous zit that was not there the night before. *Sigh*
  • Uncooperative unofficial Photographers.
  • Lack of Pepsi Max, and my painful addiction to it.
  • Irritable people. Calm down and stop shouting.
  • The amount of adverts on Downton Abbey.
  • Disgusting Gossip Magazine Stories. Never read one, but I have seen some titles, and it intrigues me as to how anyone could find that remotely entertaining. It is not interesting, it's just wrong.
  • American Nationalism. Ok, so I do not mind the americans and we all need something to keep us entertained, but the level of American Nationalist Pride is irritating and cringeworthy in its arrogance. Watching Barack Obama's speech at the news of the death of Gaddafi, all I can hear ringing in my ears five minutes later is the USA this, and American Soldiers that.... every now and then, 'with help from the international community.' It is dreadful. On a final note, stop singing your national anthem every morning before school. It's pitiful.

  • Kate Moss > she needs to stop. Her body has been ruined by drug and alcohol abuse, and she can now only do covers that are heavily photoshopped. As a personal observation, I never thought her to be even mildly pretty in the first place and the whole 'heroin chic' trend was, looking back, set to become an abomination. Of course, we are all allowed opinions and, if you disagree, that is your prerogative. (On the other hand, her new lipstick 'Kate' for Rimmel London, is embarassingly gorgeous, and I sort of respect her for having held on so long in such a fast-paced industry)

  • I do not care how many clothes I have. I never have anything to wear.
  •
Alberta Ferreti - and this one
    is gorgeous.
The upcoming prospect of no school uniform in sixth form. I adore School Uniform. Honestly. On a School Day, there is nothing easier to pull on and go. I cannot believe that we took a vote on it and certain nincompoops who believe it is 'freedom of expression' to wear whatever clothes they wish to school, voted 'no uniform'. It is so selfish. They may not care about how they look, but I do... how am I supposed to think of something new, personal and interesting to wear everyday? On my budget? Anyway, they too will have grown tired of 'no uniform' by the third week. In regards to Aesthetic Issues such as this, a school should not be a democracy, it should be a dictatorship.
  • Tunics and Trousers. Alright, so maybe this one should not be in this category. However, out of all the big Autumn Looks 2011, this is my least favourite. Although a quick and relatively low-maintenance look, it is so easy to get woefully wrong and look dowdy or ill-fitting. I do like Tunic and trousers (I am fully intending to give this look a go, but with an arabian nights twist)

Thanks for listening to my little rant. Remember, this blog is purely for entertainment purposes, and a way of communicating my passion for fashion, styles and clothes. I do not intend to offend anyone (well, not very much) :D >> Remember to check back tomorrow for 'failing to reach the surface'.

Red & Black vs. Pink & Black

Red and Black...

Red and Black, both colours that are wholly present on stars gliding down the red carpet, or Supermodels strutting the catwalk. Together, they can be a look of pure timeless elegance, rock n' roll or Gothic and Punk... it is not going away quickly. After a Summer Catwalk filled with simply scarlet, the Autumn and Winter collections are arrayed in all shades, and looking forward to this Summer's collection... Bejewelled rubies and garnets. Soft Salmons, Crimsons, Corals, Warm Maroons.
Remember, a la 'Jean Paul Gaultier' Autumn/Winter 2011, bright red lips with beautiful blacks are a perfect way to make a statement. Sharp and Sophisticated.

This outfit is made up of a black netted tutu skirt (with many underskirts) from warehouse - an essential of my winter/autumn wardrobe because of its flexibility. Gorgeous Shoes, Black Scarf (being used as a belt if you do not see it) Basic Opaque Black Tights and, last but not least, a fancy dress dress I received at Christmas when I was ten; it does not fit me the normal way anymore... Yay Recycling!

So, I would like to think that this has some Hispanic Vibes, 'un element de Fantaisie' and an elegant way to do a strapless. Either way, it was my favourite of the six outfits!

Here's a little culture for you. Red and Black are the key colours in the flags of (among others) Yemen, Albania, Egypt, Iraq - (along with yellow) on the flags of Belgium, Germany, Papua New Guinea and East Timor (along with green) on Jordan, Libya, Kenya, Malawi and Kuwait. Also the simple bisected red and black flag is a symbol of Anarcho-syndicalism and Anarchist Communism. I am certain that most of you probably did not know that.

Okay, so I am not too sure what to call this. I have a bandana around my leg (an old find. It's probably Disneyland Paris thinking about it. I might have bought it along with the cowboy hat and toy pistol that, in my naivety, I thought looked just like a real one) a cool black jacket with gold studs, platform heels with skulls on them and a skateboard. My interpretation of Rock Chick? I only wish that, as well as this very gorgeous skirt, I had a proper red kilt.
Next time I go to Edinburgh, whenever that happens since it currently seems likely to be years in the future, I shall get a really nice one. There was a great shop next to the place I bought my beautifully soft blue Cashmere jumper (on sale!)
A quick note on where these all came from. Jacket, Yumi. Red Top, Cyrillus. Shoes, comment if you wish to know. Skirt, John Lewis. Bandana, Disneyland Paris (probably) Necklace, the end of a pair of red ear phones from a tour bus - they hardly worked anyway, call it recycling. Tights, everywhere. Tinted Aviator Sunglasses, no idea... my sister's bedroom?

More Culture... well, I need something to break up the Photos. :S
In Literary terms, 'Le Rouge et le Noir' (The Red and the Black) is a psychological and historical novel in two volumes, written by Stendhal... a bildungsroman of his character, Julien Sorel.
Musically, 'Red and Black' is a song from the Boublil-Schonberg musical Les Miserables (Which is brilliant!)

Something a little lounge-singer or gothic about this lovely evening dress. Black Velvetine. Inherited from my Mother (Vintage!) The Shoes were also inherited from somebody else, but this time they were bought in a Charity Shop by my Mother for my Sister. My Sister thought they were 'granny'-ish, such a derogative term, although she later said it was because they were too small, and I adopted them.

Ok, so there are three more outfits that should have been uploaded but due to unforseen circumstances involving my camera being broken by one of two of my unofficial photographers (the boy ones) then borrowing my brother's camera and having incompatibility problems with the memory card thing. *Sigh* I cannot upload them now... but I promise to do so as soon as I can!
